What We Treat

Traumatic Stress

 

Traumatic stress is a term used for trauma that causes severe psychological, relational, emotional, economic, spiritual, physical, or sexual harm but does not meet full criteria of PTSD.

Examples may include:

 

  • Systemic trauma

  • Toxic work trauma

  • Relational trauma

  • Generational trauma

  • Community trauma

Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

 

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition triggered by experiencing or witnessing a terrifying event.

Symptoms may include:

 

  • Flashbacks

  • Avoidance of things reminding you of the event 

  • Nightmares

  • Severe anxiety and/or depressed mood

  • Uncontrollable and intrusive thoughts about the event.

Complex Trauma

 

 Complex trauma is a term used to address trauma experienced by a person who had an ongoing and repeated sense of fear, horror, powerlessness, and enmeshement of past traumas. It is closely related to PTSD.

Additional symptoms may include:

 

  • Often chronic trauma in chidlhood

  • Relational instability

  • Heightened emotional responses.

Anxiety and Mood Disorders

 

Some examples include anxiety or depression. These conditions may be manifestations of trauma.

Symptoms may include:

 

  • Mood swings

  • Restlessness

  • Irritability

  • Low motivation

  • Uncontrollable and intrusive thoughts

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Trouble sleeping

  • Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, or hopelessness
